Single Sign-On (SSO) Documents

athenahealth provides Single Sign-On (SSO) capabilities using the SAML 2.0 standard. There are two separate offerings:

  • Inbound athenaNet SSO, where athenahealth is the Service Provider, so users can authenticate into athenaNet without using athenahealth credentials.
  • Outbound athenaNet SSO, where athenahealth is the Identity Provider, so users can log into athenaNet and then access third-party sites without entering new credentials.
  • Embedded Apps, leveraging athena’s SSO, which provides access to content within the athenaOne Clinical workflow without having to open a separate browser tab. This makes it easier to make connections and leverage third-party information that isn’t natively accessible in the EHR.
